The Carolina Microfinance Initiative is designed around our internation programs. CMI provides interns and consultants to microfinance organizations around the world. In the past CMI members have traveled to Peru, South Africa, Bangladesh and Guatemala as part CMI’s international programs.
In the summer of 2010, CMI expanded our international programs to include our own microfinance bank in Guatemala. FAC or el Fundo de apoyo comunitario internacional, is the first student-run microfinance bank in Latin America. Through a partnership with Lemonade International, FAC serves the residents of La Limonada, the largest slum in Guatemala. Our program boasts a 100% repayment rate, with many borrowers as repeat clients.
